Aug 02, 2023N.J. high school roof antenna struck by lightning, triggering fire alarms, police say
As a quick, yet intense storm rolled through New Jersey Friday afternoon, a bolt of lightning struck an antenna on the roof of a Union County high school and triggered fire alarms, authorities said.
The strike happened around 1:40 p.m. at New Providence High School, sending local firefighters and police to check the building for any fires or injuries, according to a statement from the New Providence Police Department. Neither occurred, authorities said.
According to the school’s calendar, students were scheduled to be dismissed from the school at 1:15 p.m. Friday, so it was unclear how many people were inside at the time.
